Formating my Laptop … going for a Dual-Boot
right now i am formatting my laptop which does not have a working CD-ROM and it does not boot from USB!
yes i know it looks like there is no way in but actullay there is a fine and easy way to get around this problem.
first i removed my hard drive from my laptop and connected it to my friends laptop using an IDE to USB cable.
i formated the partition which used to be labeled as C: and also I formatted all other partitions.
I made new ones as follows:
a ) 25 GB unallocated space (I will clarify this later)
b) 15 GB FAT32 (got labeled as K:)
c) 15 GB unallocate (will use this for my fedora linux)
i got a windows cd and copied the I386 folder to the partition K:
opened a command prompt and navigated to K:\I386
and typed
winnt32 /syspart:k: /tempdrive:k:
waited till the files got copied and just before it restarts i pressed escape
now back to my laptop and the freaky blue screen is installing windows on K:
i left everything as it is (i did not convert to NTFS)
now i have a working windows on my K:
but I want it on a C: in the begginig of my Harddrive which on my friends laptop would have appeared as I: so now I create my C: and move the I386 folder to it and do all that again and during the process of installing the windows on my C: i removed partition K:
ok so now my windows is on my C:
other solutions to Change the drive letter dont work fine and would cause you a lot of headaches
I try all other work around before with FOFA [my friend] but the dont work
so this is the best way I guess ….
I will be back when i start installing linux so wait up
